Sylmar

Sylmar falls in Los Angeles, California, as a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley. The history of Sylmar started in the 18th century as the formation of the San Fernando Mission. The Sylmar is historically known for the abundance of Sylvan Olive Orchards.

San Fernando was declared the city in 1874, leading to the name of the self-governing land in the surroundings of San Fernando as Morningside. In 1893, the area name changed, incorporating two Latin words, 'Trees and Seas.'

The natives propound the idea to rename the northwest side of the region as Rancho Cascades at the end of the 20th century. However, the change of name only got approved in 2018. The natives gave Sylmar the nickname of 'The top of Los Angeles.'

The coherent olive production began in 1890 in Sylmar. Before the transformation of 2000 acres of land by the Los Angeles Olive Growers Association, the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountain in the north side of San Fernando had been recognised insignificant and hideous.

The healthy climate of Sylmar became the motive for establishing the first hospital in the vicinity of Los Angeles. There are fourteen public schools in the town while there are eight private schools.

Based on the US consensus of 2000, 69,499 natives were residing in 12.46 square miles in the Sylmar vicinity, which becomes 5,579 people per square mile. In 2009, the Sylmar Chamber of Commerce reported 90,000 residents living in the community.

Sylmar meets the borders of self-governing Tujunga Canyons on the north, Lopez and Kagel canyons on the east side, on the southeast with the city of San Fernando, Mission Hills on the south, and Granada Hills on the southwest and west.

In 2000, eleven percent of the Sylmar population aged 25 years of age had earned their four-year educational degree, which is the low percentage for the city.
