Northridge

Northridge comes in the neighborhood of San Fernando Valley, situated in Los Angeles, California. It was initially named Zelzah by settlers in 1908. It later got renamed North Los Angeles in 1929, but this name would cause confusion between North Hollywood and Los Angeles.

So, in 1938, the community name was changed to Northridge Village by civic leader Carl S. Dentzel, which turned into modern-day Northridge. The Tongva people or Native American Gabrielino who inhabited this neighborhood about 2000 years ago are indigenous to the area. In the late 1840s, Mexican Governor Pio Pico sold the land to Eulogio de Celis of Spain, whose heirs divided the land for resale.

Northridge touches its boundaries with Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, North Hills, Van Nuys, Lake Balboa, Reseda, Winnetka, and Chatsworth from various sides. Based on the data of the U.S census 0f 2000, 57,561 residents reside in the neighborhood, with 32 being the median age.

The town is highly diverse ethnically as it has a considerable number of whites, Latinos, African Americans, and Asians living in the vicinity. In the year 2000, about 8.5% of military veterans of the total population were living there.

The community has many important landmarks and places that reside there. California State University, Northridge, the Northridge Fashion Center, Los Angeles' former historic roller skating rink, and Northridge Skateland are thriving in the heart of the neighborhood.

There are about eleven public and nine private schools serving the community along with CSUN university. Dearborn Park and Vanalden Park are the two parks located in the town. Both are unstaffed parks with horseshoe pits, a jogging path, picnic tables, basketball courts, a children's play area, and tennis courts.

The Northridge Recreation Center is famous for having a gymnasium, barbecue pits, baseball diamond, basketball courts, basketball courts, a children's play area, a community room, picnic tables, a soccer field, and tennis courts.
