Winnetka

Winnetka resides in the west-central San Fernando Valley as a popular neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. In 1922, It emerged as a small farming community, and Charles Weeks was the one who founded it.

The Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce requested him to form an egg farm back in 1920, which eventually developed to be called Poultry Colony. However, Weeks renamed it Winnetka when he bought a farm in Winnetka, Illinois.

The neighborhood shares its boundaries with Chatsworth, Northridge, Reseda, Woodland Hills, and Canoga Park.

According to the census done in 2000, the total number of residents found in Winnetka was 40,943. However, by the year 2008, it considerably increased to 54,825. The median age for the community is 32, which is average for the county and the city.

The neighborhood is ethnically highly diverse, with a mostly having Latino population. Whites, Asians, and black are other ethnicities found in the area. By the year 2010, the population dropped back to 49,043 based on the record of the U.S. census.

The neighborhood has about six public schools that come under Los Angeles Unified School District. In addition, there are about four private schools in the region providing quality education.

The neighborhood has a few recreational areas and parks containing many fun activities. Winnetka Recreation Center, Runnymede Park, and Quimby Park are most famous for having basketball courts, a gymnasium, a baseball diamond, a children’s play area, and a tennis court. The Winnetka Child Care Center can take 40 preschool and 59 after-school children, ranging from 2.9 to 13. The West Valley Family YMCA provides programs for anyone regardless of any distinction and is known worldwide.

Winnetka has its own Community Center and Chamber of Commerce and a post office running under the United States Postal Services.
