Valley Glen

Valley Glen is a neighborhood of San Fernando Valley in the southeastern section of Los Angeles, California. It used to be a part of Van Nuys and North Hollywood once, but later in 1998, it got separated.

Because of its renaming, it took some time to gain official recognition. In 2004, CalTrans recognized Valley Glen and installed a location sign on 170 Freeway. However, the Department of Transportation installed 12 neighborhood signs in the town right away in 1998. In 2008, postal services designated some part of Van Nuys post office to the town, and it was only in 2013 that the installation of a monument sign got approved.

It shares its boundaries with Raymer Street, Sherman Way or Vanowen Street, Tujunga Wash, Woodman Avenue or Hazeltine Avenue, Burbank Boulevard, and Hollywood Freeway. Moreover, Tujunga Wash bisects the Valley at most parts.

In 2000, based on the census data, Valley Glen had 59,230 residents. However, by 2008 its population density increased to 62,846. Valley Glen is highly diverse ethnically. It has a large number of Latinos in the vicinity, along with a fair number of whites. Asians and blacks are other nationalities found in the region. Mexican and Armenian are the most common place of birth for the residents living in the neighborhood.

Moreover, twenty-one percent of the residents aged 25 or above have gained a four-year educational degree by 2000. Los Angeles Valley College is in Valley Glen, and it also has seven schools sharing their boundaries with the town.

Valley Glen Community Park, previously called Erwin Park, is the only park located in the area. It is presently unstaffed and consists of a baseball diamond and picnic tables. The Great Wall of Los Angeles falls in the Valley Glen region, which portrays California through the eyes of children, women, and minorities.
